Nipah Virus Declared more Dangerous than Coronavirus, Health Experts Issue Warning

After 2023, cases of the Nipah virus have once again been reported in India, which calls for serious and immediate preventive actions.

Health experts stated that effective screening arrangements should be implemented in affected areas and that the movement of people should be restricted to prevent the spread of the virus.

In the context of global cricket, the public health expert expressed concerns, saying that in the current situation, the decision to hold major ICC events—especially the T20 World Cup—in India should be reconsidered in order to protect players and officials from potential health risks. Meanwhile, questions are being raised about the lack of transparent information regarding the spread of the Nipah virus in India.

International media have also expressed reservations about the measures taken by Indian authorities and their strategy to deal with the virus.

According to reports, two cases of the Nipah virus have been confirmed in West Bengal, while the death of a young man has been reported in the state of Kerala. The Nipah virus is transmitted from animals to humans, and according to experts, its severity may be greater than that of the coronavirus, with a mortality rate ranging from 40 to 75 percent.

Health experts further stated that in the past, health and sanitation arrangements during various international sporting events in India have also faced criticism, which makes the importance of preventive measures even greater in the current situation.
